Repetition

I utter ‘drink some water please’

Like 15 times a day.

I frequently annoy myself

Repeating what I say. 🙄

Sometimes toddler listens to me,

Mostly they do not.

I know that they have heard as

They are within earshot. 🤔

And that is when I realise

That I’m not just mum.

It’s also now a broken record

That I have become. 🤪

Coming home

Going to work is excellent,

But coming home is ace!

THE best thing about my day

Is seeing that wee face. 😍

I love their reaction when they

Realise it’s me.

They get so excited I feel

Like a celebrity! 🤩

I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.

I’ll make the most of it,

As once they hit the teenage years,

They will not give a shit. 🙄

Perspective

It’s amazing what’s exciting

When you’re two years old.

It can be as simple as

An adult’s glass to hold. 🤔

We take these things for granted now

That we are fully grown.

We’ve forgotten it’s a thrill

To do things on our own.

We can learn a lot from them.

Make more of every day.

We’d appreciate life more

If we saw things their way. 🤩

Growing

There is a moment when you see

What you’ve not seen before.

When you realise your baby’s

Not a baby anymore. 🤭

It happened to me yesterday

And took me by surprise.

They looked so grown up in a photo.

Could not believe my eyes. 😮

So this is how the process starts,

Of slowly letting go.

But how amazing it will be

To watch them as they grow? ☺️

Routine

Routines are essential when you

Have a little one.

It makes them feel secure and safe

And helps you get things done. 😇

In our house it’s the four B’s:

Bath, book, bottle, bed.

Because we do them in that order,

They know sleep’s ahead. 😴

We have learned to do it in the

Same way every day,

As even for the smallest changes,

They can make you pay. 😱

OCD

Before having children I had

Quite bad OCD.

Everything I did, I’d want to

Do it perfectly. 🤓

Now I find my OCD’s being

Slowly chipped away.

I need to straighten everything

A bit less every day. 🤪

As much as I think tidying

And organising’s fun,

It is now more important

To just get stuff done. 😏

Happy Mother’s Day

On Mother’s Day you still do all the

Things you normally do.

The only difference is you get

A card to say ‘thank you’. 🙄

And to get a bunch of flowers

Really is lovely.

It totally makes up for the times

You’re up at half past three. 🤣

I don’t mean to sound ungrateful,

But it would be swell,

If my present was a night

Alone in a hotel. 😜

Comic

Humour has a shelf life,

In case you weren’t aware.

Today they’ll laugh hysterically.

Tomorrow they won’t care. 🙄

To husband I’ll say ‘Check this out’

When he comes home from work,

Then I’ll do my party piece.

Our child won’t even smirk! 😳

So now I’m growing a thicker skin,

Gets thicker every day,

As toddlers are the toughest crowd

You’re ever going to play. 🤨

Exhaustion

I never thought I’d be so tired

It’d literally feel

As if my head would fall right off.

The exhaustion is unreal. 😴

Your eyes, they go that fuzzy way.

Reaction times are slow.

How you’ll survive your working day,

You really do not know. 😭

And it would not seem half as bad,

If you could guarantee

You’d get a better sleep tonight.

But you can’t, sadly. 😩

Bedtime

Some days they are diamonds

And some days they are fraught.

Some nights they go straight to sleep

And some nights they do not. 😩

If toddler drops off straight away

It’s like you’ve won a prize.

You may even do a fist pump

Just as they close their eyes. 😃

But other nights are marathons.

They won’t go down at all.

And you just have to sit it out

While they bounce off the walls. 🙄
