Rainy days

I used to read the forecast, hoping

It did not say rain,

As being stuck inside all day,

I’d think a total pain. 😩

But now if it is raining, we have

Such a lot of fun,

And play with all the things for which

We do not need the sun. 🙂

We cosy in and watch a film,

All wrapped up in a shawl.

So nowadays it’s rainy days

That are the best of all. ☺️

Sleepyhead

Half the time when I am putting

Toddler down to bed,

It actually ends up being me

Who falls asleep instead. 😴

A few hours later I wake up

With that metallic taste,

And my precious hour alone?

Well, it has gone to waste. 😩

With lenses in and make up on,

I still have stuff to do.

So I just have to suck it up and

Make myself come to. 🤨

Chilling out

Now the nights are drawing in,

And bedtime’s back on track,

I’m feeling very spoiled that

I’ve got some free time back. 😃

Once our toddler is in bed,

I have an hour for me.

I will not waste that precious time,

So I spend it wisely. 🤔

I can sit and read if that is

What I want to do.

I may even get to watch

An episode or two. 😲

Learning curve

I remember in the early days,

How nervous I would feel.

Bedtime routine on my own!?!

It was a massive deal. 😩

Before it seemed like something that

Could bring me to my knees.

But, now that I have mastered it,

It is a total breeze. 🤓

And now, if I’m left on my own,

It’s gone the other way.

Flying solo at bedtime’s

The best end to a day. 🙂

Best pals

As far as bestest buddies go,

My mum and toddler win.

They really love just hanging out,

And make each other grin. 😁

It’s really very cute to see,

And good for toddler, plus

Watching them both horse around

Is just hilarious. 😂

But it comes as no surprise

To us they are that way,

As they are wee peas in a pod,

And share the same birthday. 😍

Mama

I’m no longer Mama, it seems

Mummy is my name.

They sound so very similar,

But they are not the same. 🤔

It signifies an era’s end.

A new one has begun,

And soon I won’t be Mummy, they will

Start to call me Mum. 🙃

But it really doesn’t matter.

None of them sound strange,

As I will always be their mother.

That will never change. 😍

Making room

Now that toddler’s two we must

Get rid of some old toys,

But we must wait until their nap

So they don’t get annoyed. 🤫

Anything they haven’t touched

For months is going away,

As, for all the new stuff they’ve got

We must now make way. 🤨

So, even though for weeks they haven’t

Played with all of it,

The minute they see it go out,

‘Twill be their favourite. 🙄

Birthday party

Throwing children’s birthday parties

Goodness what a feat,

And one that, for at least ten years,

I’m destined to repeat. 🤪

It has taken every minute

I have had to spare.

I’m working flat out and I have

To do lists everywhere. 🤓

So fingers crossed it all goes well

And toddler thinks it’s ace.

It will be worth it when I see

The look on their wee face. 😇

Risk averse

Good job Daddy takes some risks,

As I will not take one.

So when our toddler is with Daddy,

They have much more fun. 🤪

Daddy always laughs when I

Freak out if they fall down.

Says “You should see what we get up to

When you’re not around.” 😝

But I know that it’s teaching toddler

To be far more brave,

And be a lot more confident

In how they will behave. 😊

Happy birthday

I can’t believe you’re two today,

Our precious little one.

Since you arrived two years ago,

Life’s been much more fun. 😃

We love you more than anything,

I tell you that each night.

(It is the last thing that I say,

As I switch off your light). 😍

Our time so far with you has been

The happiest we’ve had,

And we could not feel luckier

To be your Mum and Dad. 😊
