The unthinkable.

They sent an ambulance to take us

To the hospital. 🤭

Thank goodness for the NHS

We so appreciate,

As what they do for us, you cannot

Underestimate. 😇

Tonight when I got home from work,

Toddler was in bed.

I really should have been there, but

I was at work instead. 😳

I ask myself the question, ‘Am I

Doing the right thing?’.

Coz missing out on stuff like that?

Well, it really stings. 😩

I say I’m setting an example,

It’s my reason why,

But that gets harder all the time

For me to justify. 🤔

Before I owned a person,

I was a bit blazé.

Out for dinner after work,

Booking holidays. 🤭

I wonder if I’ll ever get

Back on a plane again,

As taking children on a flight’s like

Parenting level 10. 😅

Respect to those who’ve done it.

I think you’re really brave,

As there’s no way of predicting how

Your offspring will behave. 😬

We have started toddler early

With some chores to do.

We make them put away the stuff

Once we’ve cleaned up a poo. 😷

They tidy up the wipes and cream

And put them in the drawer.

They also lift the changing mat

That’s lying on the floor. 😇

We’re hoping that by starting young

The good habits will stick,

So when they are a teenager

They won’t be such a dick. 😜

What it is about the car

That makes them fall asleep?

You can get from A to B

Without a single peep. 🤫

But if they are far too quiet,

You will start to panic.

Poke them and they still don’t move?

By this time you are manic. 😱

And so you end up waking them

So you can see them breath

And, even though they’re now awake,

You are still relieved. 😊

Sometimes there is just no point

In doing something fun.

If toddler’s grumpy, you are doomed

Before you have begun. 😬

Sunday we went to the pool.

We thought it a good shout.

Toddler cried for half an hour

Until we took her out. 😭

…

So the next time that we think

We will do something good,

We should check before we go

That toddler’s in the mood. 🤪

And so I’m back to working late.

At least it’s lighter nights.

They make the fact it’s half past seven

Not seem quite as shite. 😝

I eat lunch at my desk each day.

Tonight I ate my tea.

As the sun’s out, there are places

I would rather be. 🤨

Like taking toddler to the park,

Or sitting out to dine

With a cheeky, dare I say it,

Nice big glass of wine. 😜

As far as childcare standards go

I’ve got it pretty sweet.

My parents are retired and they

Stay three days a week. 🤭

Some think that sounds horrendous.

Some think that it sounds ace.

You can tell which way they’re leaning, as

It’s written on their face. 😲

I don’t take it for granted and

I know it’s lucky that

I am so well supported or,

As some say, a ‘spoiled brat’. 😜

Some nights when we go to sleep,

We all play musical beds.

I won’t wake up in our room, I’ll be

Somewhere else instead. 🙃

So I’m prepared for what the night

Ahead has got in store,

I have got a mattress set up

On our toddler’s floor. 🤭

Toddler then goes back to sleep

Much more easily.

It really does take half the time

If they are with Mummy. ☺️

Today we had the dentist. Our

Appointment was at noon.

Despite my planning, it went down

Like a lead balloon. 😬

We both got up upon the chair,

Then everything went south.

Toddler just point blank refused

To open up their mouth. 😶

In the end I was quite sneaky.

Guilt? I have a tinge.

The teeth were only put on show

Coz I made toddler whinge. 😳
